Are You A Spicy Mojito?

I heard somewhere that your preferred tipple says something about your personality. So, I thought, let’s have a look, why not? Let’s just say that I got slightly lost in a weird and wonderful rabbit hole of cocktails, craft beer and characteristics. The good news is – you don’t have to!

A lot of what I found was just joyful fun, but interestingly, it made me think of my friends and what they order and some of it was quite close to the truth…

Does what you prefer to drink give people a glimpse into your personality?

Have a look at what the internet “experts” have to say and see whether you can relate.

A CHILLED CHENIN

“I can see that.”
• White wine lovers are classy
• They invest in their image and are well put together
• They are social and interested in people – social butterflies
• Just like there are several cultivars of white wine, they have many facets to their personalities

“Excuse me?”
• They can be sarcastic and perfectionists
• They can’t be trusted with secrets

In general, your choice might simply be a practical one! It’s hard for the bartender to mess up a glass of wine!

RUBY RED

“I can see that.”
• Red wine drinkers are confident, strong and dedicated
• They prefer quality above all else
• They are adventurous, but love order

“Excuse me?”
• They are snobs
• They are pretentious about their palates
• They’re arrogant and will make the bartender open a brand-new bottle just for them

As a red wine drinker, I’m going to go with this: They don’t care “what people will think” and believe that things get better with age.

CRAFTY BREWS

“I can see that.”
• Craft beer drinkers are all about the process
• They pay attention to detail
• They are unique and interesting

“Excuse me?”
• They are “the new wine snobs”
• They follow trends – craft beer is “the thing” in some circles
• They can get boring when explaining the ins and outs of their favourite beer

Supporting small businesses will always get my vote! Sadly, I am not a fan of beer, but I’ve had some very interesting conversations with the Brew Brus and Sisters.

THE WATER OF LIFE (ACCORDING TO THE SCOTS AND THE IRISH)
Whisky refers to Scottish, Canadian, or Japanese grain spirits. Whiskey refers to grain spirits distilled in Ireland and the United States. Scotch whisky is made from malted barley. Bourbon is exclusively made in the USA and contains at least 51% corn.
“All bourbons are whiskey, but not all whiskies are bourbons.” Clear as mud, isn’t it?

“I can see that.”
• Whiskey/Whisky drinkers know what they want
• They are humble and interesting
• They don’t need to draw attention to themselves
• They are complex and methodical

“Excuse me?”
• They can be somewhat know-it-all
• They get argumentative about how to drink good whiskey

Discerning whiskey/whisky drinkers aren’t gulpers, they are sippers – savouring the flavour. Drinking slowly and enjoying your choice is always a good thing!

G&T

“I can see that.”
• Gin and tonic drinkers are sophisticated and intellectual
• They are probably the “cool” members of the group
• They are no-frills, no drama
• They are comfortable in their skins and with their choices

“Excuse me?”
• They are often friend-zoned
• They are seen as old-fashioned and boring

A fuss-free person who has things sorted, whether it is a small everyday situation or a bigger life picture, sounds like a great friend to me!

VERSATILE VODKA
It’s difficult to put vodka drinkers into a box! Depending on HOW they prefer their drink, they vary…
The main categories are:
1. The healthy ones who prefer a drink with low calories that is gluten and sugar free
2. The ones who are really drinking the mix

“I can see that.”
• They are trendsetters
• They like to be part of the action
• They are bubbly and fun

“Excuse me?”
• They are obnoxious
• They aren’t adventurous

I like the idea of making a healthier choice and not breaking the diet. I have vodka and cranberry-drinking friends who responsibly limit their alcohol intake by switching to straight juice, and that is never a bad plan!

TEQUILA!

“I can see that.”
• Tequila drinkers are bold and sassy
• They are dedicated and committed
• They have a YOLO mindset
• They are the bartender’s best friend – quick and easy orders

“Excuse me?”
• They can be seen as “party animals”
• They are seen as instigators

Tequila drinkers are not always the crazy ones. In my circle of friends, they are often the most responsible – believe it or not! They will have one or two shots and drink soft drinks for the rest of the night.

MO-HEAT-TOE
I couldn’t really leave this one out, could I?

“I can see that.”
• Mojito drinkers like things clean and fresh – minty fresh!
• They are cool and adventurous
• They love new things and to see the world

“Excuse me?”
• They are demanding – holding up the line at the bar with their complicated mix
• They are picky
• They can bore you with their long travel stories

A bit demanding? Maybe. Think they’re special? Possibly. Often big personalities?

Yes. But, seeing that their drink takes so long to prepare, probably not going to overindulge!

Did you recognise yourself or friends on the menu? Or perhaps a small part of who you are?

People are very seldom one-dimensional – we are 3D creatures who grow and change! Whatever you do, don’t go changing what you enjoy drinking based what I said about your personality…

Just be responsible, stay safe, know your limits, and remember your MYRKL* before you go out!
